When I came to Kazakhstan 4 years ago, it was not much difficult to live without knowing the language. Most of the time I get through by using google translator. But after one month, it's time for a hair cut. I want to keep original hairstyle, but it was quite difficult to convey my thoughts through Google translate. That time I was living in KBTU student hostel, so I went to a nearby saloon where most of the students go. I went there without an appointment, so had to wait for at least 30 minutes. I was watching guys having hair cut and leaving, all of them had the same haircut, I call it Kazakh boy hair-style, it looks like a short hair version of Kairat Nurtas.

So when I got my chance, I used Google translate to translate these words to Russian " I need the same style, but very short hair" - "Мне нужен тот же стиль , но очень короткие волосы" She smiled and said OK... What happened? After 20 minutes I had the same hair style as all the Kazakh men before. I assumed she knew only cut in one style. So after that incident, I did a bit of research on the different hair saloon, and came up with the following categorization

Level 1 : Student Category ( 500T - 1000T)
Level 2 : Self established Businesses (2000T - 3000T)
Level 3 : The Turkish Viva (4000T - 7000T)
Level 4 : Concept Hair Saloon (5000T - 10000T) + Whisky

Level 1 : Student Category ( 500T - 1000T)
Unfortunately, I do not have photos of this type of Salon, but they are usually located under the road, near the road intersections, they do not really care about style or fashion, you will be able to get a hair cut within 10 -15 minutes. These places are usually tidy enough for the price and they do not have sinks for washing hair after the haircut

Level 2 : Self established Businesses (2000T - 3000T)
I usually go to a saloon under my old apartment, they are self established business, very clean and tidy, they do no have any branding or business plan, they work fine by getting business from around the area, very friendly. Also allows to wash hair before and after the haircut. Keep on asking if the hairstyle looks fine and comfortable every 10 minutes. I always forget to take appointment, but they always try to squeeze me in the schedule without keeping me waiting.

Level 3 : The Turkish Viva (4000T - 7000T)
They are slightly upscale, more focus towards high end fashion, I called this level "The Turkish Viva" because most of the time 50% of the salon employees are Turkish. You definitely need to get an appointment in most these places as they are usually completely booked for the day. They mostly work with bridal hairstyle.Good service, smiling faces everywhere.

Level 4 : Concept Hair Saloon (5000T - 10000T) + Whisky
These are new generation saloons trying out new concepts, mainly focused towards male audiences, Prices are very high, but you also get treated like a VIP. Most of the employees are under the age of 25.Some of them provide beard oil and beard grooming items. Personally, I haven't been in these saloons, maybe next month

### There is a distinction between a beauty salon and a hair salon and although many small businesses do offer both sets of treatments; beauty salons provide more generalized services related to skin health, facial aesthetic, foot care, nail manicures, aromatherapy, — even meditation, oxygen therapy, mud baths, and many other services.
