The Charyn Canyon
The Charyn Canyon is one of the unique natural monuments of Kazakhstan. The canyon is about 12 million years old and surprises with its vertical cliffs, calling to mind ancient castles created by wind, sun and rain.
It will take about 3 hours to reach the canyon. On the way, you will hear a lot of interesting about the history and nature of the region and know more about Kazakh people, their life and traditions.
And as soon as you see Charyn Canyon you will forget about this long way at once, because you will be impressed with the beauty and splendor of the canyon. Big Almaty Lake
Big Almaty Lake, located at an altitude of 2511 m. The lake's high altitude location keeps it cool, and so, even in July, the water temperature does not exceed 8 degrees. The lake is within the Alatau – Eliy National park and both the Gorge and the lake are an attraction for visitors using Almaty as their base. The lake is used for both hydro electric power, and the water supply for the city, but this does not detract from the magnificent mountain scenery.
The mountains, Sovetov to the southeast, Ozyorny to the south and Turist to the southwest form a backdrop on all sides tothe lake, producing some spectacular reflections, changing colour throughout the seasons. All three mountains are around the 4,000 metres high, with a glacial water running down towards the lake. The lake itself is about 1km wide and 1.6 km long, with a depth of about 40mtrs.
Lake Kaindi (Kaindy) is located 2000 meters above sea level in Tien Shan Mountains, 129 km from the city of Almaty, Kazakhstan. Water basin was formed in 1911 as a result of the earthquake that caused major landslides and vacuum caused a hole in the middle is quickly filled with rainwater. In length reaches 400 meters and its depth is 30 meters.
Kaindi is known for its scenic beauty and mysticism dalzhyashta on water flooded forest and protruding bare tree trunks. They resemble large masts of sunken ships or copies mysterious army hidden under the water and waiting for the right moment to attack.
The water in the lake is very cold, even in summer does not exceed 6 degrees. It has preserved much of the pine trees that can be seen in the depths of Kaindi. In winter, the lake freezes and it becomes a great place for trout fishing and diving, as at the time of pictures become even more ghostly.
Singing sand dune is mountain in Kazakhstan up to 3 km long and 150 m high, located in the national park Altyn Emel in Almaty region of Kazakhstan. The uniqueness of the dune is that in dry weather it produces a sound similar to the tune of organ. The beautiful view of surrounding countryside is opened from the dune.
From immemorial times the singing sands had a lot of folk superstitions. According to legends, the singing sands activity was caused by spirits of the desert, fantastic animals, raging rivers and many unexplained reasons. One of these legends says: Once Satan traveled around the world, causing evil to people. But once the God decided to punish him and made it impossible to move quickly from one place to another. So, Satan had to go home on its foot, the house was on the top of the mountain. As he tired, he decided to have a rest but fell asleep. So, it turned into lonely dune, which nothing and no one can wake him up.
Just before the dunes, a small oasis invites for a picnic. The spring is named after Chokhan Valikhanov, the famous explorer, who quenched his thirst here as he ventured through Kazakhstan. Singing Dune is one of the most popular attractions, which entered the shortlist of Seven New Wonders of Nature.
Then, sit down in the sand and gently slide off the side of the dune. A deep rumble starts to emanate from below, and you can start to feel the vibration. It’s an uncanny feeling, and the more people join in, the louder the dune sings, gathering decibels until it resembles a thunder that can resonate for minutes.
